Asia Green Environmental Sdn Bhd , the developer of the Mill Integrated Waste Management Solution (MIWAMAS) Composting System, was founded in 1997 by four (4) pioneer investors hailing from the construction industry. The earliest plant was intended to produce compost only, which in time progressed to the current waste management system. The pilot plant was constructed in Proton City, Tanjong Malim producing organic compost using available organic wastes, i.e. empty fruit bunches (EFB) and decanter solids (dried up palm oil mill effluent).

The company's novel waste management system was eventually noticed by Bertam Holdings Plc, a hundred year old plantation listed at the London Stock Exchange and by September 2001, it acquired a sizable stake in Asia Green. In Bertam's 2001 Annual Report, it was cited that "…The potential of the company (Asia Green) is considerable, particularly in the light of the fact that there are some 350 palm oil mills in Malaysia alone…."

Asia Green is especially proud of the fact that the technology and processes involved in Asia Green's palm oil waste management system is a result of more than four years of homegrown research, development and field experimentation. Not only did Asia Green conducted their own research and development, but also integrated current plantation practices into the field experimentation so that the solutions are practicable, economically tenable and tailored exclusively for the palm oil industry. An application for a patent on the waste management system has been registered in Malaysia and Indonesia .

In the year 2002, another listed company, Kulim (M) Berhad, one of the major plantation holder in Johor, acquired a sizable stake in Asia Green. With this partnership, Asia Green was able to build and operate its very fist EFB & POME Waste Management Plant, adjacent to a 30 mt/hr palm oil mill, in Sedenak, Johor, under the banner of Kulim.

A number of the plantation companies in Malaysia have since visited this plant and the level of interest generated indicates that they are convinced that the waste management system is technologically, economically and environmentally viable.
